About me

Textile artist * Designer * Quilter * Teacher

Jennie Wood is a British textile artist, designer, quilter and teacher living in the beautiful Chiltern Hills
in Oxfordshire, UK.

Following a professional career in London ~ in the fields of architecture, interior and exhibition design, Jennie became a lecturer in three-dimensional design at the Bournemouth School of Art and Design before moving to live and work in Hong Kong, where she was introduced to the absorbing art of quilting – and began to sew!

On returning to England, she completed an MA in Design Leadership after which, Jennie elevated her design and stitching skills to another level gaining a City & Guilds Bronze Medal in Patchwork and Quilting.  Building on her background as a design lecturer she taught quilting for Adult Education, became an involved member of several quilt groups and an active member of the specialist Contemporary Quilt Group of the Quilters’ Guild.

Transferring her design experience into textile art and using many and varied techniques, Jennie’s contemporary mixed media textiles have been given Judge’s Choice at the Festival of Quilts in England and awarded a First Place in a National Canadian Quilt exhibition. Her textile art has been published, is in private collections and has been exhibited throughout Europe and the UK including the Quilt Museum and Gallery in York. Her artwork has been shown across Europe and Canada in travelling exhibitions, also as an invited exhibitor, alongside other UK art quilters, at the National Quilt Museum in the USA.

Jennie’s artistic focus is to share her passion for creative textile work; continuing to develop her creativity while meeting new challenges in designing and painting – creating contemporary mixed media textile art.

Currently, she is enjoying creating artisan textiles items using beautiful fabrics and unique, vintage Japanese kimono silks . . .

Please contact Jennie if you want to know more about her work in textiles, mixed media and silk.

'35 Below'

This art quilt was inspired by a self-portrait photograph taken whilst cross country skiing across Koshlong Lake, Haliburton, Ontario, in temperatures of 35F°.  Because of the wind chill factor, icicles formed on my eyelashes – for me a unique sensation as, being from England, I had never experienced such beautiful but extreme winter conditions . . .

Snow dyed cottons, tulle, silk, organza, original artwork, computer printed textiles and heat bonded ‘ice’ crystals. Free motion embroidery, machine and hand quilted.
